A covered bridge not far from David & Margaret's house.
This is one of the places that they ski at in the area, however all their snow is made by machine.
We visited the Boyd's Bear store and factory. I have never seen so many teddy bears in one place in my whole life.
March 29th - Friday --- David took us to visit Gettysburg. In three fateful days in 1863, 165,000 soldiers met on the Gettysburg Battlefield. More than 51,000 soldiers became casualties as they fought for their beliefs. Because of this battle the tides turned in the Civil War, leading to a Union victory. Here again we watched a movie describing the battles and the drove around the area. There is also a 377 foot painting in-the-round of Pickett's Charge. The Cyclorama painting includes a sound and light program telling the story of Gettysburg.
These are views from the top of Little Round Top.

David checking out the cannons.
March 19th - Thursday --- Cousin David took Jack and I to the Antietam Battlefield. It was truly amazing. First we watched a movie with people doing a reenactment of the battles. Then we drove to all the places we had just seen in the movie. Antietam was the bloodiest one-day Battle of the American Civil Was, over 26,000 men died that day. Just 3 days later on September 20. 1962, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
This is Sunken Road or Bloody Lane.

The Lower Bridge (Burnside Bridge) where about 500 Confederate soldiers held this bridge for 3 hours. Burnside's command finally captured the bridge and forced the Confederates back towards Sharpsburg.
Fort Fredrick is not far from David & Margaret's house.

A picture of the outside of the Fort and one of the barracks.

An old building just outside the Fort.
There was a ranger at the Fort cleaning some rifles.

March 18th -Wednesday --- We arrived in Hagerstown, MD and went out to dinner with my Aunt Ruth, 1st cousin David and his wife, Margaret. After dinner we went to a Travelogue movie sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The movie that night was on the journey of Lewis and Clark up the Missouri River all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was very interesting.
